A. Dale Thompson, Ph.D., Named President of National Consulting Psychology Organization

Dallas – Feb. 16, 2018 – At the recent Society of Consulting Psychology (SCP) conference in Savannah, Ga., which ended Feb. 11, A. Dale Thompson, Ph.D., was installed as SCP president for a one-year term. Thompson is founder and CEO of Leadership Worth Following (LWF), a Dallas-based leadership consulting firm. Along with SCP’s past president and incoming president, Thompson will help guide the organization’s strategic direction for the next year.

A division of the American Psychological Association, SCP has nearly 1,000 members from the United State and a number of other countries. Its members are primarily psychologists with a common interest in the consulting process including research, evaluation, education, and training.

“My life’s mission is finding ways to change the world,” remarks Thompson. “The depth of wisdom available through SCP members is inspiring – I’ve never met so many capable, thoughtful, wise change agents in my career. I’m excited about facilitating ways to help them make an even bigger impact.”

By working with a company’s leaders, for example, Thompson says SCP members have a tremendous opportunity to influence a broad base of employees and customers. He believes SCP members should leverage the available, peer-reviewed science of psychology in relevant, vital ways to facilitate the growth of individuals, teams, organizations, and society. Thompson is convinced SCP’s multi-generational membership has the collective experience, energy, and capacity to drive innovation to achieve world-changing results.

“We owe it to the world to have a point of view on what great leadership looks like and how to cultivate it,” explains Thompson. “We should stand up for what is good and right.” He concludes, “On an international level, with more countries brandishing nuclear weapons, our society’s very survival depends on great leadership.

Before his career as a consulting psychologist, Thompson’s business experience included co-founding a truckload transportation company and guiding the expansion of a leadership consulting firm into more than 30 markets in 14 countries.

While at LWF, Thompson has worked with Fortune 500 firms internationally. He also co-authored two notable academic papers – on leadership and character in leadership – showing it can be reliably defined and measured while also demonstrating the influence of character on important leadership and business outcomes.

Thompson received his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from the University of Minnesota. Along with SCP, he’s a member of The Society of Psychologists in Management and Dallas Executive Connection. Thompson is also a founding member of the advisory board of the Goolsby Leadership Academy at the University of Texas-Arlington (UTA). He’s also been affiliated with the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University and the Industrial/Organizational Psychology Programs at UTA and the University of North Texas.
