David Duncan serves as Vice President and Executive Consultant for Leadership Worth Following, LLC. He brings over 20 years of experience in enhancing the performance of leaders, teams, and organizations. His background encompasses a wide range of programs and initiatives for the assessment and development of key talent utilizing both well-established processes and tools along with cutting-edge approaches.
A former licensed psychologist, David’s coaching philosophy is strongly influenced by Positive Psychology and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; he offers a unique blend of challenge, support, and insight delivered in an authentic fashion. Also, his natural and intuitive style puts people at ease while generating trust, respect, and confidence. One of David’s key focuses is making leaders more aware of their impact on others to create a culture of enthusiasm and success where people want to give more discretionary effort. This can lead to increased productivity, competitive energy, and business success.
David coaches executives and business leaders in a wide variety of industries including financial services, pharmaceutical, retail, health care, hospitality, utility, and professional services. Some recent coaching assignments include:
- Executive Vice President (Financial Services): Transitioning to a new role as an external hire. Building trust and credibility with new team and external stakeholders while holding team accountable to aggressive performance targets.
- Chief Strategy Officer (Pharmaceutical): Developing emotional intelligence to balance out existing task/execution skills and inspire increased trust, respect, and followership from key stakeholders.
- Chief Technology Officer (Utility): Moving from leader of a small, local team to an enterprise executive. Effectively developing senior management relationships and building a more diverse repertoire of influencing skills.
Soon after earning his PsyD, David transitioned from private practice to leadership consulting, where has built a strong consulting/coaching career working with well-established firms such as PDI, Right Management, and Vantage Leadership Consulting. More recently, David served as Vice President Talent Management for a privately held hospitality company, where he designed and oversaw the organization’s talent management life cycle. This experience provided David with valuable knowledge and insight on leadership challenges from the organization/client perspective.
David earned his PsyD in Clinical Psychology from Adler University and his BA in Psychology from Lake Forest College. He is a member of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, a division of the American Psychological Association.
